Employees of ministries and departments who read will be paid a monetary reward

In all ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan, the employee who reads the most books on a competitive basis receives a monetary reward in the amount of one month's salary. This is stipulated by a Presidential decree within the framework of "Measures for the Development of Reading Culture and Increasing Interest in Reading among the Population."
According to the decree, by April 1, 2026, "Book Corners" will be created in all ministries and departments, a monthly "Book Reading Hour" will be introduced for employees, and an internal rating system will be established.
Also, by March 1, 2026, a list of recommended literature on professional activity will be formed. Annually, at least three foreign professional literature will be translated into Uzbek, enriched with commentaries, dictionaries, and examples.
Young people and students will also be encouraged: the top 100 students who have read the most books will receive a cash prize of 10.3 million soums.
According to the presidential decree, a Fund for the Development of Reading Culture will be established under the Youth Affairs Agency. Reading clubs "In the Footsteps of the Jadids" operate in general education schools.
The main goal of the resolution is to increase the population's reading capacity and achieve an average of 10 books per person per year in 2026-2030. The Fund's resources will be used to support young writers, develop children's literature, and encourage talented authors.
