Certain medicines will now be provided free of charge: new list approved

Important news has been announced for the public in Uzbekistan. According to a new document adopted in the healthcare sector, a list of medicines to be provided free of charge under the reimbursement program starting from 2027 has been approved.

This list was developed by the Ministry of Health and coordinated with the State Health Insurance Fund.

Which medicines will be provided free of charge?

The new list includes various types of diseases, including:

  • oncological,
  • mental,
  • cardiovascular,
  • endocrine and other chronic illnesses.

A total of 69 types of medicines have been designated for their treatment. Among them are preparations such as Omeprazole, Tramadol, Ambroxol, Potassium Iodide, and Heparin.

What does reimbursement mean?

The concept of "reimbursement" means the coverage of expenses. Through this program, the funds spent on medicines prescribed by a doctor will be covered by the state.

How can one obtain the medicine?

According to the procedure, the patient:

  • receives an electronic prescription from a family doctor;
  • the prescription is automatically sent to pharmacies that have a contract;
  • a special code is sent to the patient's phone via SMS;
  • the medicine is obtained from the pharmacy free of charge using this code.

This process is implemented based on the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution dated October 2, 2024.

What other changes are there?

Experts note that the goal is to further improve the electronic prescription system and prevent various interpretations and misunderstandings. Through this, it is planned to establish a unified practice between medical institutions, pharmacies, and citizens.

The new procedure is expected to alleviate the public's need for medicines and serve to improve the quality of medical services.
