Uzbekistan Senate has toughened penalties related to narcotic drugs

At the 15th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, a law aimed at strengthening the fight against the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues, and potent substances was discussed. Protecting public health and preserving the nation's gene pool is a priority of state policy in New Uzbekistan. This is reported by Uzdaily.uz reports .
The law introduces amendments to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Code of Administrative Responsibility. In particular, separate criminal liability is now established for organizing an “illegal narco-laboratory” and facilitating its operations. Furthermore, the distribution and promotion of narcotic drugs via the Internet are being incorporated into legislation as aggravating circumstances.
To protect youth from this scourge, penalty measures for drug-related crimes committed in areas adjacent to educational institutions, camps, and dormitories are being further strengthened. The procedure for early conditional release from serving a sentence will not be applied to individuals who have committed particularly serious drug-related crimes.
According to Senate members, this law will serve to increase the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in combating crime and creating a “drug-free environment.” At the end of the discussion, the senators approved the law.
