Pharmacies to refund overcharged funds to the public

Inspections to control medicine prices are being intensified in Uzbekistan. It is reported that enforcement measures have been applied to 2,500 pharmacies that artificially inflated prices.
Through an automated monitoring system, 686,000 cases of retail markup violations were identified. As a result, it was revealed that citizens overpaid a total of 21.1 billion soums for medicines. These funds are scheduled to be returned to consumers.
Starting from March 2026, the control mechanism has been further strengthened. If the wholesale price exceeds the established regulatory limit, tax authorities will automatically reject invoices. This aims to prevent unjustified price hikes for medicines.
By the end of the first quarter of this year, 1.4 billion soums in overpayments were identified in 190 pharmacies. The process of returning these funds to citizens has now begun.
The monitoring system oversees price hikes across 12,500 retail outlets nationwide. This serves to increase transparency in the pharmaceutical market and protect consumer rights.
Citizens can check the permitted prices of medicines through the reference price registry. If a pharmacy is found selling above the set price, it is recommended to contact the Competition Committee's hotline at 1159.
In short, the era of 'playing' with prices in pharmacies is gradually coming to an end. An automated system is monitoring, and overcharged money is being returned to the public. Medicine is a business, but not at the expense of human health.
