On February 6, Ukrainian forces took control of at least one settlement during an offensive in Russia's Kursk region, advancing 5 km southeast of the city of Suja, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported in a daily report.
Ukrainian army advance
According to experts, Ukrainian troops advanced southwest from Makhnovka and north and east from Cherkasskaya Konopelka, capturing the village of Kolmakov. Ukrainian forces were also reported to be present in the villages of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Fanaseyevka, but it is not known whether they held these areas until the end of the day.
In addition, the Ukrainian army is reported to be advancing on the village of Ulanok. Kolmakov is located southeast of the city of Suja, and before the war, there were 79 residents there.
Russian sources and the position of the Ukrainian army
Russian military bloggers, while confirming a number of tactical successes of the Ukrainian army, claim that Russian troops have destroyed a large number of Ukrainian military equipment.
The Russian Defense Ministry, on the other hand, reported that it had repelled Ukrainian counterattacks in the direction of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok in the Kursk region.
Strategic significance and criticism
According to Ukrainian officials, the operation in the Kursk region is important for strengthening Ukraine's position and gaining an advantage in possible peace negotiations.
At the same time, some analysts question the effectiveness of the Ukrainian offensive, noting that the Russian army has managed to advance in the Donetsk region over the past six months, capturing a number of cities. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
