Kim Jong-un's statement
Emphasizing his support for Russia, Kim Jong-un said:
"The DPRK army and people unconditionally support and encourage Russia's just cause to defend its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. This position is in line with the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the DPRK and Russia," he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Regional tensions and the DPRK's position
In his speech, the DPRK leader sharply criticized trilateral military cooperation between South Korea, Japan and the United States.
"These countries are responsible for the increase in tension in the region. The DPRK does not want any unnecessary conflicts, but will take its own measures to ensure military balance," said Kim Jong-un.
The DPRK leader also announced that he would resolutely respond to threats from Western countries and focus on increasing military potential.
Did DPRK soldiers participate in the Russo-Ukrainian war?
Western sources have repeatedly reported that the DPRK is providing military assistance to Russia. According to US, South Korean and Ukrainian officials, Pyongyang sent about 11 thousand soldiers to participate in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
According to The New York Times, North Korean troops participated in military operations in the Kursk region of Russia. However, the troops were withdrawn from the front line due to heavy losses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that on February 7, Russia sent North Korean troops to the fighting in the Kursk region.
Relations between the DPRK and Russia are strengthening. Kim Jong-un officially announced his support for Russia's efforts to protect its territorial integrity. At the same time, Western countries are criticizing Pyongyang for providing military assistance to Moscow.
The regional situation is becoming increasingly tense and the DPRK's unique position continues to play an important role in international relations. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
