Israeli soldiers have stepped up their attacks in the occupied West Bank, killing two women in a raid on the Nur Shams refugee camp in the Palestinian territory. One of them was eight months pregnant, Al Jazeera reported.

The soldiers opened fire on a Palestinian family in the camp, killing the woman and seriously wounding her husband. Medical teams were unable to save the 23-year-old woman's fetus, as Israeli soldiers reportedly prevented the wounded couple from being taken to hospital.

A 21-year-old woman was also reportedly killed by Israeli soldiers in her home. The Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that the Israeli army raided the camp in the West Bank governorate of Tulkarem on February 9 and deployed heavy equipment and bulldozers.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society had earlier said that Israeli soldiers had prevented its medical teams from entering the camp, despite reports of casualties. The Israeli army said it was investigating the incident. Israel, which claims to be conducting an operation against “subversive activity” in the camp, has imposed a curfew in the area.

Over the past few weeks, more than 26,000 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes in Jenin and Tulkarem as a result of attacks. Since a ceasefire in Gaza was declared last month, Israel has increased the frequency and intensity of attacks across the occupied West Bank.

Raids on civilian homes continue a day after Israeli soldiers forcibly evicted dozens of families, some of whom are taking refuge in schools.
