Florida state police said they had arrested a man who stole $769.5 thousand worth of earrings from a Tiffany & Co. jewelry store and then swallowed them.
According to police, 32-year-old Jaytan Gilder told store employees that he was ordering for a “professional athlete” and asked them to show him the expensive products.
Caught swallowing earrings
Police believe he stole the earrings and fled the store. He was arrested the same day and it was reported that Gilder swallowed several items during his arrest. These may have included stolen earrings.
He also allegedly planned to steal a diamond ring from the store, but dropped it while trying to escape.
Police X-ray
After his arrest, police used an X-ray to determine that he had an unidentified object in his stomach. However, police declined to say whether the earrings had been returned to them when asked by the BBC.
Gilder has previously robbed Tiffany & Co.
According to reports, Gilder also robbed a Tiffany & Co. store in Texas in 2022. He also has 48 outstanding warrants in Colorado.
He has been charged with grand larceny and theft of valuables while wearing a mask. Gilder has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
