American Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called on Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire, otherwise new sanctions may be imposed. He wrote about this on his page on the social network "X".
Graham expressed his satisfaction with the news that Ukraine had accepted the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.
"Team Trump, good luck. I hope Russia follows suit. If Russia refuses, we should impose sanctions on it," the senator said.
Graham stressed the need for Congress to impose enhanced sanctions on Russia. He said the restrictions should affect not only Russia but also countries that buy its goods, including oil, gas and uranium.
"Russia should already be feeling insurmountable economic pain as a result of its brazen invasion of Ukraine," Graham added.
According to reports, during a nine-hour meeting between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine accepted a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, but stressed that this condition was also subject to Russian consent.
The Kremlin said it was studying the proposals put forward at the talks in Jeddah. Moscow said it was waiting for the US to provide official information on the details of the talks.
