A horrific incident occurred in the northern Indian state of Kashmir. According to The Hindu, at least 25 tourists were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting in the city of Pahalgam.
Although Indian authorities have yet to announce an official death toll, local sources suggest that the number of victims may continue to rise.
The attack took place in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. Unknown armed individuals opened fire on tourists walking along a trail. Local authorities have classified the incident as a terrorist act.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack on his social media page:
“We remain resolute in our fight against terrorism, and this fight will intensify,” Modi stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants wore military uniforms. The attackers managed to flee the scene. Indian security forces have now cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to capture the perpetrators.
It’s worth noting that the Kashmir region is one of the most disputed areas between India and Pakistan. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting terrorists in the region, while Pakistan firmly denies such allegations.
According to Indian authorities, at least 44 people have been killed in similar attacks in Kashmir since April 2024.
The international community is now once again focused on the region, and investigations are ongoing. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
