Putin declared a temporary ceasefire in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory
Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a three-day temporary ceasefire in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. The Kremlin reported this.

It is emphasized that such a decision was made based on humanitarian considerations.

“In accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation V. Putin, for humanitarian reasons, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the Russian side declares a temporary ceasefire from 00:00 on the night of May 7 to 8 to 00:00 on the night of May 10 to 11. During this period, all hostilities will cease,” the report says.

The report also stated that if the Ukrainian side violates the ceasefire, the Russian military will give an “appropriate and effective response,” thus expressing Russia’s readiness for unconditional peace talks aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.

“The Russian side once again expresses its readiness to hold unconditional peace talks aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and to establish constructive contacts with international partners,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

On April 19, Putin declared a 30-hour Easter truce on the front lines. At the time, he stressed that this decision was made from a humanitarian point of view.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky immediately rejected the proposal after the Easter truce was declared. However, three hours later, he issued another statement, stating that Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the resumption of the special operation on April 21. According to their data, during peacetime, Russia has recorded 4,900 violations of the peace treaty. Vladimir Zelensky, in turn, citing a report by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, reported that Russia committed 2,935 violations.

On April 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US President's Special Representative Steve Witkoff. The meeting discussed the possibility of resuming direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. This is Witkoff's fourth visit to Russia in the past three months and the third meeting between the US President's Special Representative and Putin.

On April 11, at a meeting in St. Petersburg, Witkoff and Putin discussed the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. At that time, the Russian President asked the United States to ensure lasting peace.
