Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a three-day temporary ceasefire in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. The Kremlin reported this.

It is emphasized that such a decision was made based on humanitarian considerations.

“In accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation V. Putin, for humanitarian reasons, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the Russian side declares a temporary ceasefire from 00:00 on the night of May 7 to 8 to 00:00 on the night of May 10 to 11. The report also stated that if the Ukrainian side violates the ceasefire, the Russian military will give an “appropriate and effective response,” thus expressing Russia’s readiness for unconditional peace talks aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.

On April 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US President's Special Representative Steve Witkoff. The meeting discussed the possibility of resuming direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. This is Witkoff's fourth visit to Russia in the past three months and the third meeting between the US President's Special Representative and Putin.
