US President Donald Trump is demanding that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia agree on a permanent, rather than temporary, ceasefire. This was announced by White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt on April 27, while briefing reporters on the details of the talks between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“President Trump’s discontent with the leaders of the two countries is growing every day. He has repeatedly stressed the importance of a permanent, not a temporary, ceasefire during the talks. As far as I know, this morning Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a temporary ceasefire. However, the US president is not going to be satisfied with this and is demanding a permanent peace. Trump is emphasizing that the first priority is to stop the killing,” Levitt said.
According to a White House official, Trump is optimistic that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia can reach a peace agreement, but he is realistic about the situation. Trump believes that Zelensky and Putin should continue negotiations in earnest to resolve this conflict.
At the same time, the Kremlin on April 28 announced a temporary ceasefire “for humanitarian reasons” in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to the Russian statement, this regime will begin at midnight on May 8 and will last until midnight on May 11.
Today, the international community, including the US administration, notes the importance of establishing a permanent peace in the negotiations between the two sides. This is of great importance not only from a political but also from a humanitarian point of view. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
