Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Russia's planned joint military exercises in Belarus are actually some kind of serious preparation. He said this at the Three Seas Initiative international summit held online in Warsaw.
"Currently, Russia is preparing something in Belarus under the pretext of military exercises, without disclosing its specific goals and plans. Usually, new attacks by Russia begin in this way. Which country could the attack be aimed at? Ukraine? Lithuania? Or Poland? God forbid! In any case, we must all be prepared for any situation," Zelensky expressed his concern.
Zelensky also called on Western leaders to increase pressure on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. In his opinion, this war must end without Russia harming the territorial integrity of Ukraine and without any privileges or rewards for Putin.
“The outcome of this war must be fair for Ukraine, our state must not lose a single inch of its territory,” Zelensky said.
For your information, the Three Seas Initiative international forum unites 12 European Union countries bordering the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas. At the end of the summit, the heads of state adopted a joint statement strongly condemning Russia's war against Ukraine. An appeal was also made to accelerate the process of Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the European Union.
Earlier, Moscow and Minsk announced that large-scale joint military exercises would be held on the territory of Belarus in September this year. According to various sources, the number of military personnel involved in these exercises could reach 100 thousand.
In response to these actions by Russia and Belarus, Poland has also announced plans to hold large-scale military exercises on its territory together with NATO. In the fall, a large-scale military exercise simulating a possible attack by Russia on NATO countries is planned to be held in Hamburg, Germany.
In turn, Russian officials have expressed concern about the frequent military exercises that NATO countries are conducting near their borders. In particular, the former head of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev noted that NATO countries are developing scenarios for the occupation of the Kaliningrad region and a preventive strike on Russian nuclear weapons.
