
Geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a dangerous new level. On the evening of May 8, explosions occurred near the airport in the Indian city of Jammu, according to international news agencies, including AFP and Reuters.
According to a statement by the Indian military, the Pakistani side launched drone and missile strikes on the city. As a result of the attacks, the power supply in the city of Jammu was completely cut off.
Five military points were targeted
According to the Indian security forces, five strategic military facilities located in the city were attacked. An Indian military officer, who did not give his name, told reporters that the air defense system successfully intercepted eight missiles. However, it is not yet clear how many missiles Pakistan launched.
Before the escalation - Operation Sindoor
A day before the incident, on the night of May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched an operation called "Sindoor". It involved missile strikes on what it considered to be "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan. Pakistan officially confirmed that it had carried out the attack in response to this action.
Officially confirmed casualties
According to the latest data, 32 civilians were killed in Pakistan and 16 in India as a result of these air strikes. The number of injured and the amount of material damage have not yet been officially announced.
Pakistan also activated its air defense system
Earlier, the Pakistani side announced that it had shot down 29 drones sent by India over major cities such as Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. In particular, Rawalpindi is of particular importance as a garrison city where the country's army headquarters is located.
