Ukraine's main European partners are taking a rare step in political history. On Saturday, May 10, the leaders of France, Germany, Great Britain and Poland - Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk - will visit Kyiv simultaneously.
They are expected to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and urge Russia to agree to a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.
"For Ukraine. For Europe"
When the visit was officially announced, French President Macron posted a joint photo of the four leaders on social media. It was accompanied by the following line in four languages (French, English, German and Polish):
"We are going to Kyiv. For Ukraine. For Europe."
This line is being interpreted as not just a visit, but also as an expression of a unified political position.
Simultaneous visit is a rare diplomatic event
According to AFP, the simultaneous arrival of four European leaders in Ukraine is unprecedented in history. The move is seen as another sign of unwavering support for Ukraine among EU countries.
The US is also increasing pressure
US President Donald Trump also supports the European initiative. On May 8, after a conversation with Zelensky, he said that the US would demand that Russia agree to a 30-day complete ceasefire.
New sanctions looming
A day earlier, Reuters reported, citing diplomatic sources:
The US and the European Union are preparing a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Moscow. If Russia rejects the initiative, new economic sanctions may be imposed.
Zamin.uz editorial office is closely monitoring the possibility of opening the way for peace talks through joint pressure from Europe and the US. This visit could become not only a diplomatic symbol, but also a manifestation of serious political pressure for peace. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
