US President Donald Trump expressed confidence on his social media page that the military conflict in Ukraine would soon end and noted that peace could be established between the two countries in the coming days.
“This could be a great day for Russia and Ukraine. I hope that this endless bloodshed will end soon. Hundreds of thousands of lives will be saved as a result of this process. It will be a completely new and much better world,” Trump wrote on his X page.
He also announced that the United States is working closely with Russia and Ukraine to accelerate this process and that after this conflict is resolved peacefully, the main focus of the United States will be on economic recovery and trade.
Recall that a day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his European allies called on Russia to agree to a full and unconditional ceasefire starting Monday, which will last at least 30 days. Zelensky also said that if Moscow rejects this call, Western countries will impose strong economic sanctions on Russia.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin, not accepting the conditions set by Ukraine and the West, proposed to resume direct bilateral negotiations from May 15. Putin's proposal has so far remained unanswered by official Kiev.
However, Donald Trump did not specifically explain Putin's refusal in his address. His attitude is being watched with interest by experts and the international community.
According to international analysts, as a result of direct US intervention, hopes for peace in Ukraine have increased. At the same time, the outcome of the upcoming negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may largely depend on the diplomatic activity of the US and Western countries.
