Israel launched Operation Gideon in Gaza: the goal is to destroy Hamas
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a new large-scale military operation in the Gaza Strip. The operation was dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots,” and the Israeli government said it was aimed at “taking control of strategic areas” in Gaza. RBC-Ukraine reported this, citing IDF and The Times of Israel sources.

According to the Israeli Defense Ministry, over the past 24 hours, the Israeli army has launched large-scale attacks in Gaza and deployed forces to seize control of certain areas. The army said that these active operations are the first stage of the operation, the main goal of which is to destroy the Hamas group and free hostages.

According to media reports, the operation includes the following areas:

- Establishing full control over Gaza by the Israeli army;
- Evacuating Palestinian civilians to the southern areas;
- Targeting Hamas militants;
- Limiting the group's ability to control humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on May 5 that a new phase of the operation would begin. According to him, Israel's main goal - the complete destruction of Hamas - remains unchanged.

On May 13, Netanyahu announced that the military operation in Gaza would soon end, stressing that "HAMAS will no longer be in this territory."
