An important telephone conversation took place between Zelensky and Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation. This was reported by the media.

It is known that this conversation between the two heads of state took place before Trump's planned telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On May 17, the US President announced that he would contact Putin by phone on May 19. Zelensky and Trump agreed to exchange views by phone again after this important conversation.

Also, on the eve of the peace talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, Trump commented on the situation and said that "until Putin and I meet, there will be no result in the talks," and therefore he said that he might call the Russian president himself.

On May 18, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also spoke by phone with the US President and discussed the issue of Ukraine with him. The leaders of Great Britain, France and Poland also participated in this conversation along with the German Chancellor. The conversation mainly focused on the issue of a ceasefire in Ukraine and the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia.

According to Bloomberg, Vladimir Putin is confident that Russian troops will be able to break through the Ukrainian army's defenses and take full control of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions of the country. The agency notes that Putin is expected to express this confidence in a conversation with Donald Trump.
