US President Donald Trump has announced a new chapter in the country's defense system - the launch of a strategic missile defense project called "Golden Dome". He announced this at a special briefing at the White House on May 20.

According to the president, the project has a total cost of $ 175 billion and is aimed at protecting American troops and citizens from external missile attacks. According to him, the system will be able to effectively intercept hypersonic, cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones.

"This will be a complete defense shield that will be deployed not only on land, but also at sea and even in space," Trump said. He said that some radars and interceptors will be deployed directly in orbit.

From Iron Dome to Golden Dome

Trump, referring to Israel's Iron Dome system, stressed that the American project would be technologically more advanced than it: "We are creating the most powerful missile shield in the world. And it will protect not only the United States, but also our allies."

Ready by 2027

The system is planned to be operational by 2027 - the end of Trump's presidential term. According to him, the US Space Forces will participate in the implementation of the program, and General Michael Gatlin has been appointed to manage the project.

Canada is also interested in cooperation

It became known during the briefing that the Canadian government has also expressed interest in participating in the Golden Dome program. Negotiations are expected to begin soon.
