US President Donald Trump has expressed his reaction to the recent conflict between Ukraine and Russia. In his opinion, Kiev's actions were "the basis" for a massive retaliatory strike by Moscow.
The president, answering questions from reporters aboard Air Force One, expressed serious concern about the possibility of an escalation of the conflict and its possible consequences.
Trump specifically referred to the Ukrainian side's Operation Spider Web, recalling the destruction of Russian strategic bombers as a result of these actions. According to him, this very incident could become a pretext for a major retaliatory strike by the Kremlin.
"Ukraine has created a platform for Putin to strike. They gave him a reason yesterday, and he went and bombed them to hell. I saw that and thought: 'Okay, now he's going to strike,'" Trump said.
At the same time, he also touched on the issue of nuclear threat and global security. Trump stressed that such events cannot be ignored. In his opinion, the conflict should not escalate further, and all sides should immediately look for a way to defuse the situation.
In an interview with journalists, Trump called the latest events “worrying and disturbing.” When asked about the risk of a nuclear escalation, he gave a brief but serious answer:
“I hope… I hope,” the US president said.
Political analysts are evaluating this statement as new evidence confirming Trump’s increasingly soft position towards Russia but critical towards Ukraine. At the same time, there is growing talk that Trump’s possible re-election could change global positions in US foreign policy.
