After Israel launched its first military strikes on Iranian territory on June 13, the Iranian government urgently closed its airspace. As a result, many international airlines canceled or dramatically altered their flight routes.
The closure of Iranian airspace has had a particularly negative impact on tourists in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Currently, around 2,000 Russian tourists are stranded in the UAE. Some were vacationing, while others were planning to return to Russia via transit flights over Iranian territory.
Airlines have imposed temporary restrictions on all routes passing through Iran. This has either extended the journey times of flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and other cities or led to complete cancellations. Some tourists have had to extend their hotel stays, significantly increasing their expenses.
Russia’s Consulate General in Dubai, commenting on the situation, advised its citizens to remain patient and maintain contact with the consulate. The office is taking all necessary measures and is ready to assist tourists in returning home once flights resume.
As of now, there have been no official announcements regarding the reopening of Iranian airspace. This could lead to more delays and cancellations in the coming days.
