Famous American entrepreneur and tech magnate Elon Musk, after a sharp conflict with his former ally Donald Trump, has launched a new political initiative. Musk announced via his social platform X (formerly Twitter) that he has established a new political party called the “America Party.” This party is being presented as an alternative to the traditional Republican and Democratic parties.
In his statement, Musk expressed the view that the current two-party system in American politics is leading the country to bankruptcy through “waste and corruption.” He wrote:
“Today, the America Party has been founded — this is a step to return your freedom.”
He emphasized that the need for a new party was demonstrated by the people themselves, citing a poll he conducted earlier. In that poll, twice as many participants indicated that a new political force was necessary.
So far, no documents have been released indicating that the “America Party” has been officially registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC). Musk himself cannot constitutionally run for president, as he was not born in the U.S. Therefore, it is currently unclear who will lead the party.
The relationship between Musk and Donald Trump has recently deteriorated sharply. Musk was previously one of Trump’s main financial supporters, contributing $250 million to his re-election campaign. Musk even met Trump at the White House and participated in campaign rallies.
However, Trump’s new tax and spending laws, particularly provisions limiting support for green energy and electric vehicles, ran counter to Musk’s interests. As CEO of Tesla, Musk openly criticized these policies and left the Trump administration in May.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote the following:
“The man who got the biggest subsidy in history is Elon. Without subsidies, he would have had to shut down his businesses.”
Trump even promised to review the government subsidies received by Musk’s companies. This includes Tesla, as well as SpaceX and Starlink, which provide services to the government.
In U.S. politics, it is difficult for political forces outside the traditional two parties to succeed. Alternative movements like the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, and the People’s Party have participated in past elections but failed to gain sufficient votes.
Musk’s vast financial resources, his technological platform (X), and public influence may gradually bring the party onto the political stage. However, for this initiative to become real political power, it will require organization, leadership, and broad public support.
Until the “America Party” is officially registered, its legal status and participation in elections remain unclear. Nevertheless, Musk’s political move is sure to spark significant debate on the U.S. political scene. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
