Abbas: Peace in Gaza possible only with full Israeli withdrawal
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has once again firmly stated his position on the Gaza situation — according to him, the only viable solution is the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied territories. He made this statement during a meeting with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in Jordan’s capital, Amman.

According to the WAFA news agency, the two discussed recent developments in the Palestinian territories, including attacks on civilians.

Abbas emphasized:

"There must be an immediate ceasefire, release of all prisoners, and access for humanitarian aid to Gaza. But the key solution is Israel’s full withdrawal. After that, Gaza should come under the responsibility of the Palestinian State with international support."

The president also urged Hamas to hand over weapons to the official Palestinian Authority and to act within the political framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) according to international law.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had announced that Israel had accepted a 60-day ceasefire proposal mediated by Qatar and Egypt. Hamas responded positively and expressed readiness to negotiate the terms.

However, Israel rejected the amendments proposed by Hamas. Nevertheless, the Israeli delegation headed to Doha, Qatar, to continue the talks.

Sources indicate that many issues have been agreed upon, but the key point of contention remains Israel’s insistence on maintaining military control over Rafah and the Morag corridor in southern Gaza.
