Brazilian leader Lula da Silva addressed a series of sharp criticisms toward US President Donald Trump. According to him, Trump must abandon the intention to take control over world politics and focus primarily on governing his own country. He made this statement during an international forum.
According to Lula, Trump should not act like the emperor of the world. “He was elected to govern the United States of America, not to ignite wars,” he emphasized. He also expressed his support for Trump's declared intention to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war.
“Although we have differences, I welcome his intention for peace,” said Lula. But then he spoke about a piece of news that disappointed him: “This week I heard that he now intends to sell more weapons. This is a very alarming situation.”
President Lula criticized the political tensions in the world and reminded not to forget the real problems of the population. According to him, while NATO countries are increasing military spending by up to 5 percent, it is a tragic situation that 733 million people around the globe are struggling with hunger.
“We are talking about peace, but billions of dollars are being spent on weapons. This is a contradiction on a global scale,” he said. In his opinion, politicians must prioritize saving people rather than fueling wars.
According to Lula, the decisions being made by world leaders are not aimed at ensuring peace but rather at maintaining control through fear and pressure. This, in his words, evokes the thought that “we are living in a very strange and derailed world.”
