Water shortages are a serious concern in Iran

The water problem in Iran is becoming increasingly acute. President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a meeting with governors, stated that the country's water reserves have drastically decreased. According to him, Tehran is currently facing a serious issue of water scarcity. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

According to him, the available water reserves in the country have declined to an alarming level, and the situation caused by mismanagement has brought all of Iran into a serious crisis.

"In the current situation, we cannot blame nature or other factors," he said. "The blame lies mainly with past erroneous decisions and the lack of proper strategic planning. We need scientific, long-term, and deep governance."

President Pezeshkian emphasized that such a complex crisis can only be overcome through close cooperation and open dialogue between the people and the government. "If we do not solve this issue in solidarity with the people, overcoming it will be almost impossible," he added.

The situation of water sources in the Iranian capital is particularly alarming. According to the Tehran Province Water Authority, the water level in the dams supplying the capital has reached its lowest level in the last 100 years. This may affect not only daily life but also industry, agriculture, and the healthcare system.

The government, in this situation, is urging citizens to act responsibly. Strict restrictions on water consumption may be introduced. In particular, citizens are advised to use water efficiently during hot days, avoid wastefulness, and limit excessive usage.

This crisis, caused by years of drought, is not only an economic challenge but also a major social test. According to officials, in order to overcome the water crisis, comprehensive measures must be implemented nationwide within the next five years. This process should involve not only government agencies but also the public.

When water shortages, drought, and mismanagement combine, situations like this arise. But it is not too late — if solutions are sought now, scientifically-based approaches are adopted, and everyone acts together, this issue can be overcome.

This water problem can serve as a lesson not only for Iran but for the entire region. Rational use of natural resources, long-term strategy, and most importantly — changing public awareness — are now vital.

If such an approach is implemented, today’s problem could become tomorrow’s success.
