US President Donald Trump announced that on August 15, an event of great significance will take place on the world political stage. According to him, on that day, in one of the largest and most strategically important regions of the United States — the state of Alaska — a long-awaited meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be held. This announcement was officially made on Trump’s personal Truth Social account on Friday, August 8.
In his post, Trump wrote the following:
“As the President of the United States of America, I announce the long-awaited summit with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. It will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska. Detailed information will be provided in the coming days.”
In addition, a few hours earlier, answering journalists’ questions at the White House, Trump also commented on a possible peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. He stated that the agreement might include elements of “territorial exchange.” “For mutual benefit, certain territories will be exchanged... Something will be returned, something will be swapped,” he said, adding that specific negotiations on this matter would take place soon.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov also confirmed this information. According to him, holding the summit between the leaders of the two countries in Alaska is a logical decision, since Russia and the US are geographically close neighbors. According to RIA "Novosti," Ushakov emphasized that preparing for the meeting will not be easy, but both sides will work actively and productively in this direction.
Ushakov added that Moscow and Washington, in the next few days, will devote all their efforts to advancing the practical and political parameters of the summit in Alaska. “This process will not be easy, but we will work actively and resolutely,” the Interfax agency quoted him as saying.
According to available information, during the negotiations, Putin and Trump plan to focus on the issue of a long-term stable settlement of the war in Ukraine. Also, after the meeting in Alaska, the next conversation between the presidents is likely to take place on Russian territory. “The relevant proposal has already been delivered to the US President,” said Ushakov.
This news has attracted great interest in international politics, as a face-to-face meeting between the leaders of two major states is expected to influence not only bilateral relations but also the global geopolitical situation.
