Turkey has once again witnessed a strong earthquake. According to official data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the magnitude of the earthquake felt in Istanbul and several major cities reached 6.1. This powerful seismic event alarmed many residents and triggered panic in the streets of cities.
According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Sindirgi district of Balıkesir province, and the hypocenter was recorded at a depth of 11 kilometers. Tremors at this depth caused strong seismic waves to be felt in various towns and villages across the region.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least 10 buildings have been completely or partially destroyed as a result of the earthquake. In addition to residential homes, there are reports of damage to some commercial facilities and historical buildings.
At present, emergency services continue to operate uninterrupted in the region. Various local and national organizations are also coordinating efforts to provide assistance to those affected.
This incident once again reminded that Turkey faces a high seismic risk and that the population must always be prepared for such situations.
