Washington talks could be decisive for Ukraine

On Monday, the meeting at the White House carries great importance for the security of Ukraine and Europe. Experts say these talks may prove more significant than last week’s Trump–Putin summit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington together with European leaders. Their goal is to explain to US President Donald Trump that a peace deal cannot be concluded without Ukraine’s participation and that it must include firm security guarantees.

Zelensky emphasizes that he has no intention of giving up territory. The West, meanwhile, has indicated that a NATO-like protection mechanism could be developed for Ukraine. This would serve to prevent future Russian attacks.

At the same time, Russia is determined to keep Donbas and Crimea under its control. Experts warn that if Ukraine is forced to give up territory, the country’s security could be further weakened.

Military specialists believe that even if the war is halted, Russia may rebuild its forces and prepare for a new offensive. Therefore, the Washington talks are seen as a crucial test not only to end the war but also to ensure long-term guarantees for Ukraine.
