Europe’s leading states are working on a new mechanism aimed at further strengthening Ukraine’s security and creating guarantees for its future. The discussion revolves around a system similar to NATO’s famous Article 5 (collective defense). This initiative is being considered as a serious strategic step for Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.
According to the plan, if Russia launches another attack on Ukraine, Western countries will be obliged to hold an emergency consultation within 24 hours. At this meeting, a final decision will be made on whether to provide Ukraine with military assistance or not.
The idea is mainly being promoted by Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Sources emphasize that this mechanism would not only ensure Ukraine’s security but also support Europe’s geopolitical stability.
Possible Measures
Within the framework of the new mechanism, the following steps may be included:
-
Providing Ukraine with rapid and long-term defense assistance,
-
Delivering economic support and ensuring economic stability,
-
Strengthening the Ukrainian army with additional weapons and resources,
-
Imposing new economic sanctions against Russia.
Thus, European leaders are seriously considering the possibility of creating a NATO-like mechanism for Ukraine. This initiative is regarded not only as additional protection for Ukraine but also as an important step towards ensuring security and stability across the entire region.
