South Korea to ban phone use during classes
The South Korean parliament has passed a law banning the use of mobile phones in schools during class time. The new regulation will come into force in March 2026.

The purpose of the law is to protect students from phone addiction and to increase focus on lessons. Research shows that half of Korean youth use smartphones excessively.

From now on, the use of phones during lessons will be prohibited. They may only be used in emergencies or when necessary for education.

Teachers will have the authority to restrict the use of phones on school grounds. Students with disabilities will be allowed to use special devices.

Parents and teachers welcome this decision, as phones harm students’ studies and health. However, some experts believe that this will not fully solve the problem.
