Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that although there are certain problems between Moscow and Baku, relations between the two countries will be normalized based on long-term interests.
The head of state announced that during his visit to China, he had a brief conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
"Different time-related questions always arise in relations between countries. There are problems. Today we met with President Aliyev and his wife, talked a few words. I think that the foundation of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, the mutual interest in their development, will ultimately put everything in its place," Putin said at a press conference following his visit to China.
For information, on September 3, before the Victory Parade in Beijing, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev participated in the SCO summit. During the meeting, the two leaders held a number of bilateral talks with the heads of other states, but no official meeting was held.
It should be recalled that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan had previously cooled significantly following the downing of an AZAL aircraft and the subsequent deaths of representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg.
