European leaders discuss security guarantees with Zelenskyy

During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the leaders of major European powers expressed serious concern about the possibility of a new Russian attack. According to information released by Bloomberg, German and French officials thoroughly discussed the gathering of Russian troops near Pokrovsk in the eastern Donetsk region at a Security Council meeting held last week in Toulon, France.

Zelenskyy himself stated a few days ago that Russia had deployed nearly 100,000 troops to the front outside Pokrovsk. According to sources, Moscow forces have been trying to blockade and seize control of this city for more than a year. "The capture of Pokrovsk could open the way for Russia to major centers such as Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. This is inextricably linked with the Kremlin's goal of establishing complete dominance over the entire Donetsk region," Bloomberg emphasizes.

The article notes that Russia's heavy and forceful attacks in the summer did not yield the results the Kremlin expected. So far, Moscow troops have been advancing slowly, capturing only 2,033 square kilometers between May and August. This is only 0.3% of the total area of Ukraine.

Thus, as European leaders exchanged views with Kyiv on security guarantees, the state of affairs on the front and Russia's possible steps became their main concerns.
