Britain to open military bases for migrants

The UK government is on the verge of taking drastic steps to solve the problem of temporary accommodation of illegal immigrants. The country's authorities plan to accommodate unprotected migrants at former military bases while their asylum applications are being reviewed. This was reported by the famous British publication The Daily Telegraph, citing its sources.

These initiatives, which are expected to be adopted by the new government, are aimed at a more intensive change in immigration policy in the country. This task was recently assigned to Shabana Mahmud, who was appointed head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on September 5. He began his career after Prime Minister Kir Starmer's updates to the government.

According to the plan, it is planned to relocate migrants living in hotels using former military territories. At the same time, the costs of accommodating migrants in hotels are causing large expenditures in the country's budget. This, in turn, causes growing discontent among the population.

According to reports, the government intends to adapt two former military bases located in the counties of Essex and Kent, near London, for migrants. These bases were viewed as immigrant reception centers during the previous Conservative government, but at that time faced harsh criticism from human rights activists. They assessed such facilities as degrading human dignity and resembling prisons.
