The Israeli Supreme Court concluded that the government does not provide Palestinian prisoners with the necessary and quality food.
According to the British publication The Guardian, judges believe that the current food supply of convicts does not meet the standards established by law and does not meet their health and basic needs. In this regard, it was emphasized that the Israeli prison service - Shabbas - must take the necessary measures to provide Palestinian prisoners with food in the required quantity and quality.
This decision was made last year in response to a petition filed by the Civil Rights Association (ACRI) and Israel's Gisha Human Rights Group. It alleged instances of Palestinian prisoners facing hunger and malnutrition in prisons.
At the same time, Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli National Security Minister responsible for the country's correctional facilities, strongly criticized the Supreme Court's decision, describing it as "protecting terrorists from the Hamas movement." This clearly demonstrated uncompromising views regarding the country's politics and relations within the prison system.
According to reports, after the court's decision, the prison service is expected to take new measures to monitor the provision of food to prisoners and implement necessary reforms in this regard. Experts note that this decision is an important step in ensuring human rights and the well-being of prisoners.
