Further information has been released regarding the "Golden Dome" missile defense program being developed by the United States. U.S. Space Force General Michael Getline, who is in charge of the project, announced that the development process has been completed. However, the Pentagon has not yet fully disclosed the exact scale of the system or the amount of funding.
"The program is currently under consideration. There are no additional details, security remains the most important priority," the Pentagon said in a statement.
For information, US President Donald Trump stated in May of this year that the potential cost of building the "Golden Dome" could reach $175 billion. The Congressional Budget Office has calculated that $542 billion could be spent on a network of space traps alone. Currently, the initial $25 billion tranche is being discussed in Congress.
As a reminder, Donald Trump signed a decree to create the "Golden Dome" on January 28, 2025. The US government stated that the main goal of this system is to provide effective protection against a wide range of risks of aerodynamic and ballistic threats.
According to Reuters, the system may include modern radar screens, ground-based traps, space probes, and laser technologies in the future.
