A list of the most expensive places to live among Central Asian cities has been published. According to the ranking prepared by the “Numbeo” portal based on the results of the first half of this year, the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan was recorded as the most expensive city in the region.
Index and positions
The report states that Almaty, with a cost of living index of 29.4 points, ranked 346th in the world. This figure made it a leader not only in Kazakhstan but in the entire Central Asia.

The capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek — with an index of 26.8 at 364th place;

Another major city of Kazakhstan, Astana — with 26.5 points at 366th place;

The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent — with an index of 26.2 at 370th place.
The cities of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were not included in this report.
Living expenses in Tashkent
According to the portal’s data, the average monthly expenses of a family of 4 in Tashkent, excluding rent, amount to about 23 million 39 thousand soms. For a single person, this figure is around 6 million 437 thousand soms.
It is also noted that the cost of living in Tashkent is 72.2 percent cheaper than in New York (excluding rent). As for rental prices, the difference is even greater: housing rent in Tashkent is on average 84.5 percent cheaper than in New York.
