According to SABAH, in August 2024, in Eskisehir, Turkey, a young man, with a knife and an axe in his hand, attacked random people sitting in a cafe wearing a helmet to counter the attack. Most alarmingly, he broadcast the incident live on social media using a mobile phone attached to his vest.
As a result of his brutal attack, five people aged 52 to 88 received various injuries. This situation caused a great stir in the country's mass media.
The trial took place behind closed doors. The prosecutor's office accused the accused Arda Kyuchyuketim of deliberately targeting the elderly, attempting murder, and endangering people. Initially, he was asked to be sentenced to 108 years in prison.
However, according to the final decision of the Eskishehir High Criminal Court, Arda Kyuchyukyetim was sentenced to 75 years and 5 months of imprisonment.
The Turkish press emphasized the connection between the young man's actions and his inspiration from the PUBG computer game. This situation has further intensified debates about the negative impact of modern technology and virtual games on the minds of young people.
