China cracks down on pessimism in social media

In China, posts and comments on social networks that “deliberately create negative sentiment” have been banned. This was reported by Reuters.

The Cybersecurity Administration has launched a two-month special campaign. Within its framework, social networks, short video platforms, streaming services, and comment sections will be placed under enhanced control.

According to the information, the plan targets not only false news or content inciting violence, but also “excessive pessimism,” posts calling for hopelessness, self-deprecating statements, and violent scenes created with the help of artificial intelligence.

Platforms or individuals who distribute such content may face punishment.

It should be noted that this is not the first initiative — since 2021, Beijing has launched at least five similar campaigns.
