On September 23 of this year, South Korean police arrested a man around 50 years old. It was reported that in less than two years, he made approximately 60,000 false emergency calls to the police. This was reported by “The Korea Herald.”
According to the information, out of the man’s 58,307 calls, 51 were classified as serious incidents requiring urgent police response. He reported the theft of a refrigerator, planned to kill his brother, claimed he was detained against his will.
Since 2023, the man has been fined seven times for false calls. Currently, an investigation is underway for obstructing police officers in the performance of their duties. The man may face up to five years in prison or a fine of 10 million won (approximately 86 million Uzbek soms).
Additionally, it was reported that in the first four days of May 2024 alone, he contacted the police 1,882 times. He admitted that most calls were false because he lived alone and was often intoxicated.
The case tested the responsibility and patience of South Korean police and has been recognized by the public as an interesting and astonishing incident.
