Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has dissolved the government following youth protests. The demonstrations erupted due to problems with water and electricity supply.
In a televised address, the president apologized to the people and announced that the prime minister and the government had been dismissed. A new prime minister will be appointed within three days.
The protests began in the capital Antananarivo and spread to other cities. According to the UN, 22 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the unrest.
Experts consider these events one of the biggest political tests for the president. The country has previously experienced several political crises.
