Passenger saves his home from disaster after forgetting to turn off gas mid-air

An ordinary situation in everyday life can sometimes turn into an unprecedented tragedy. A clear example of this was when a Chinese passenger flying from Shanghai to Singapore suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to turn off the gas stove at home. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

Even though the plane was in the air, the passenger immediately panicked. If the stove had not been turned off, the risk of a fire at home was very high. He quickly asked the crew for help. The captain took the passenger’s home address and the smart lock code for the door, then forwarded the information to ground support services.

At first, however, the property management staff did not believe the report, thinking it was a scam. Only after calling the home phone several times did they send a specialist to check.

Just ten minutes later, it became clear that a strong smell was coming from the apartment. Inside, they found a kitchen pot in which the water had completely evaporated and the egg had burned, sticking to the bottom. The entire kitchen was filled with thick smoke. The staff turned off the stove, opened the windows, and ventilated the room. In this way, the “rescue operation” was successfully completed in just 20 minutes.

The passenger expressed gratitude to the Spring Airlines staff, noting that their alertness and professionalism had saved his home from a major disaster.

It should be noted that this was not the first such case. Back in 2006, another passenger flying from China to Urumqi also remembered that he had forgotten to turn off the stove. The pilots then used satellite phone services to call his home. Fortunately, his wife answered and managed to switch off the stove in time.

These events remind people once again: before leaving home, always check gas and electrical appliances. A simple oversight can pose a serious threat to life.
