11 members of notorious mafia families sentenced to death in China

In China, a court delivered a rare and severe verdict. Eleven members of the notorious Ming mafia family, which controlled criminal networks in Myanmar, were sentenced to death. This was reported by BBC, citing its sources.

According to the information, the Ming family had for many years managed casinos, drug and fraud centers in the city of Laukkai in Myanmar. Through the network they controlled, billions of dollars circulated, creating a dangerous power across the region.

However, two years ago, after rebel groups seized the city, the head of the family committed suicide. After that, most of the mafia members were extradited to China by the Myanmar authorities.

At the trial held on September 29 in Wenzhou, all the accused received sentences. A total of 39 people were punished: 11 sentenced to death, 5 to death with reprieve, 11 to life imprisonment, and the rest received from 5 to 24 years in prison.

Court documents state that since 2015 the Ming family had been engaged in various crimes. In their casinos and fraud centers, workers were subjected to cruelty, and some were even killed.

Experts emphasize: such networks are described by international organizations, particularly the UN, as a “fraud industry.” Many people are deceived into traps and forced into illegal activities.

Thus, the verdict handed down by the Chinese court is regarded not only as a harsh measure against criminals but also as a signal to the international community — major crimes must not go unpunished.
