A powerful typhoon in Vietnam has plunged the nation into deep mourning. It has been reported that Typhoon “Bualoi” and the floods it triggered claimed the lives of 36 people, The Straits Times reported.
According to information, the typhoon struck the northern central coast of the country on September 29. Strong winds, high waves, and continuous rains caused destruction in many areas. Official reports state that so far 21 people remain missing, while another 147 citizens sustained various injuries and were taken to hospitals.
The economic damage of the natural disaster is also very significant. According to government data, Typhoon “Bualoi” and the floods caused by it inflicted material losses of about 11.5 trillion dong, equal to approximately 435.8 million US dollars, on the country’s economy.
In the affected regions, roads, many school buildings, and government offices were damaged. Due to the collapse of the power supply, tens of thousands of families were left without electricity. Local media wrote that in some provinces the water level has not receded for several days, further complicating the lives of the population.
Official reports indicate that more than 210,000 houses suffered varying degrees of damage, some of which were completely submerged. In addition, more than 51,000 hectares of farmland, mainly rice fields and other crops, were completely destroyed.
It was also reported that thousands of families were evacuated from their homes and placed in temporary shelters. The government and rescue services are using all available resources to continue search and rescue operations. At the same time, it was mentioned that international cooperation and aid programs may also be launched.
Experts remind that every year large typhoons occur in Vietnam, many of which threaten the lives of hundreds of people. “Bualoi” is noted as one of the largest and most destructive natural disasters observed in recent years.
