9 people died as a result of a fire in an Indian hospital

A fire broke out in the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital in Jaypur, India, on the evening of October 5th. According to The Hindustan Times, nine people died as a result of the tragedy, and several more patients were hospitalized in serious condition.

The fire started at 23:20 in the hospital's neuroreanimation department. It began in a room where paper documents, medical equipment, and blood samples were stored. Officials believe the cause was a short circuit in the electrical wiring.

At the time of the incident, there were 11 patients in the ward, and another 13 people were in the adjacent wards. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke engulfed the entire department, which made evacuation difficult. "We had to break the windows from the opposite side of the building and spray water," said a rescue service worker.

Extinguishing the fire lasted almost an hour and a half. The patients were evacuated with their beds and temporarily discharged outside the hospital.

In India, such incidents have been increasing in recent years. In January, a fire broke out in one of the country's residential buildings, killing 17 people. The government provided material assistance to the families of the victims.

According to experts, these tragedies indicate that many hospitals in India are not adequately equipped with security systems. They emphasize the need to upgrade power grids and strengthen the fire safety system.
