Fatal accident in Egypt: Three Qatari diplomats die

A serious road accident occurred in Egypt’s famous resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. As a result, three members of the Qatari delegation participating in international negotiations on Gaza were killed, El Fagr reported.

According to available information, the deceased were protocol officers accompanying the Prime Minister of Qatar. They were identified as Abdullah bin Ghanim Al-Hayarin, Hassan Al-Jabir, and Saud bin Tamer Al-Tan.

Three more people were seriously injured and hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital. Egyptian journalist Amr Adib reported on MBC Egypt’s “Al-Hekaya” program that the accident occurred about 50 kilometers from the city.

The tragedy took place amid intense diplomatic negotiations involving Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Qatar traditionally plays the role of mediator in the peace process related to Gaza.

In early October, the Qatari delegation in Doha began joint talks with Egypt and the U.S., with the participation of Hamas. Qatar welcomed Hamas’s agreement to the peace plan developed under U.S. mediation.

On October 9, Israel and Hamas signed an agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh to cease fire and release hostages. Qatar played an active diplomatic mediator role in this process.

Thus, the tragedy in Sharm el-Sheikh not only claimed lives but also cast a shadow over delicate diplomatic efforts in the region. Qatari officials are reportedly preparing an official statement regarding the incident.
