Istanbul is the only city located on two continents — Europe and Asia. It is divided by the Bosphorus Strait. The city was once the capital of the Byzantine, Roman, and Ottoman Empires.
Here, history and modern life exist side by side. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and many ancient mosques are among Istanbul’s most famous landmarks.
Cats are common in the city and are treated with respect. Istiklal Street and old trams are favorite attractions for tourists.
Today, Istanbul has a population of more than 16 million. It is Turkey’s largest and most important city.
