A court sentenced 34-year-old Masanori to death for an attack committed in 2023. The defense claimed he had a mental illness, but the court rejected this argument.
Masanori stabbed two women to death, then shot two police officers who arrived at the scene with a hunting rifle. After the attack, he hid in his parents’ house for 12 hours before surrendering.
Prosecutors admitted that Masanori had seen things that were not real, but said he was fully aware of his actions at the time of the crime. The court described his behavior as cruel and cold-blooded.
In Japan, gun use is rare; usually, only hunting rifles and air guns are permitted.
