A New Era in Gaza: 15 Technocrats to Take Over Governance

A New Era in Gaza: 15 Technocrats to Take Over Governance

After the war, Gaza’s administrative system is undergoing a complete transformation. According to Times of Israel, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati announced that the region will now be governed by a special committee composed of 15 Palestinian technocrats. He noted that the candidates have already been selected and vetted by Israel.

The minister explained that this “administrative committee” will focus on stabilizing the daily lives of Gaza’s residents, rebuilding infrastructure, and reestablishing civil institutions. “We will direct them to manage the daily needs of the population, while the ‘Peace Council’ will oversee and administer international funds allocated for Gaza’s reconstruction,” Abdel Ati told Associated Press.

According to reports, the new committee has been approved by all Palestinian factions, including Hamas. The Egyptian side emphasized that this arrangement aims to ease political tensions and stabilize life during the transitional period.

Abdel Ati also stated that Hamas supports Trump’s “peace plan” but will not play any political role during the transition. Meanwhile, Israel must begin withdrawing troops from Gaza while ensuring civilian safety and the continuous flow of humanitarian aid.

It should be recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump previously proposed creating a “Peace Council” to lead Gaza’s reconstruction. Under his plan, Trump himself would chair the council, overseeing financial and organizational aspects of the rebuilding process.

On October 10, the Israeli government approved an agreement with Hamas to cease fire and release hostages — marking the first phase of Trump’s peace plan. According to the agreement, the Israeli army will withdraw to new positions while maintaining control over 53% of the enclave’s territory. On October 13, the last 20 Palestinian hostages were released.

Technocrats — professionals who prioritize practical governance over politics — aim to enhance administrative efficiency based on knowledge and experience. The new structure relies on such experts to rebuild Gaza’s peaceful and stable future.
