Chinese couple filed for divorce because they couldn't choose a name for their child

In Shanghai, the couple couldn't identify the name of the newborn for a year and eventually decided to divorce. This was reported by Oddity Central.

The couple legalized their relationship in 2023. A year later, they had a son. The birth of the child was a difficult period for the lovers, as misunderstandings and quarrels arose between them regarding the baby's name. This continued for more than a year. During this time, the child did not have any documents, therefore he could not receive the necessary medical care.

When the situation came to an end, the couple filed for divorce. According to the materials of the Pudong District Court in Shanghai, during the quarrel, the parents separately applied to the hospital to register the name that the child liked, but it was not possible to do so, since, according to the rules, such a decision must be approved by both parents.

During the trial, it was established that both parents did not properly care for the child, since the absence of a medical birth certificate is a violation of the personal rights of a minor. In addition to liability for this, the court obligated them to process all documents and identify their names within the established timeframe.

However, even in this situation, the couple could not reach an agreement independently: they began to argue about the right to own the originals of the documents. As a result, it was decided to leave the certificate with law enforcement agencies.
