The attack on a hospital in Sudan claimed the lives of more than 460 people

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that more than 460 patients and their relatives died as a result of a devastating attack on a hospital in Al-Fashr, Sudan. Speaking about this, the head of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called the incident "a tragedy contrary to the rules of morality and humanity."

According to him, the Saudi maternity hospital in Al-Fashr has been shelled several times in recent days. At the same time, there were also attacks on medical workers - on October 28, four doctors, one nurse, and one pharmacist were kidnapped by unknown individuals.

"In no case can an attack on medical institutions be justified. All soldiers must immediately cease fire. Patients, doctors, and hospitals are protected by international humanitarian law," said Tedros Adhanom.

According to reports, Al-Fashr fell into the hands of the Rapid Response Force (RSF) on October 26th after an 18-month siege and airstrikes. Following this, reports emerged of "ethnic cleansing" in the Darfur region. The International Committee of the Red Cross strongly condemned these tragedies and emphasized that civilians should not suffer.

According to the WHO, since April 2023, there have been 185 attacks against the healthcare system and medical institutions in Sudan. More than 1,200 people died and more than 400 were injured in these incidents. In 2025 alone, 49 attacks were recorded, resulting in the deaths of at least 966 citizens.

The World Health Organization has not yet named a specific person responsible for these incidents, but has called on the international community to stop the violence in Sudan.

This tragedy is considered one of the most severe humanitarian crises on the African continent.
